In less than three days, NASA will deliver a double barreled New Year’s package to our Moon when an unprecedented pair of science satellites fire up their critical braking thrusters for insertion into lunar orbit on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

NASA’s dynamic duo of GRAIL probes are “GO” for Lunar Orbit Insertion said the mission team at a briefing for reporters today, Dec. 28. GRAIL’s goal is to exquisitely map the moons interior from the gritty outer crust to the depths of the core with unparalled precision.

“GRAIL is a Journey to the Center of the Moon”, said Maria Zuber, GRAIL principal investigator from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge at the press briefing.

This newfound knowledge will fundamentally alter our understanding of how the moon and other rocky bodies in our solar system – including Earth – formed and evolved over 4.5 Billion years time.

After a three month voyage of more than 2.5 million miles (4 million kilometers) since launching from Florida on Sept. 10, 2011, NASA’s twin GRAIL spacecraft, dubbed Grail-A and GRAIL-B, are now on final approach and are rapidly closing in on the Moon following a trajectory that will hurl them low over the south pole and into an initially near polar elliptical lunar orbit lasting 11.5 hours.

“New research shows that adolescents who quickly backed down during an argument with their mother had a harder time resisting peer pressure to use drugs and alcohol than teens who were able to calmly, persuasively, and persistently argue their point with Mom. Although the findings don’t mean parents should let their kids win arguments, they do underscore that parent-child relationships are an important training ground for how children will handle peer relationships as they grow up, says Joanna Marie Chango, a study coauthor and a graduate student in clinical psychology at the University of Virginia, in Charlottesville.”

Astronomers have come across a new image from NASA’s Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer, or WISE, that resembles a wreath. The green ring (evergreen) is made of tiny particles of warm dust whose composition is very similar to smog found here on Earth. The red cloud (bow) in the middle is probably made of dust that is more metallic and cooler than the surrounding regions.

The bright star in the middle of the red cloud, called HD 278942, is so luminous that it is likely what is causing most of the surrounding ring to glow. In fact its powerful stellar winds are what cleared out the surrounding warm dust and created the ring-shaped feature in the first place. The bright greenish-yellow region left of center (holly) is similar to the ring, though more dense. The bluish-white stars (silver bells) scattered throughout are stars located both in front of, and behind, the nebula.

Regions similar to the “Wreath nebula” are found near the band of the Milky Way in the night sky. The wreath is slightly off of this band, near the boundary between the constellations of Perseus and Taurus, but at a relatively close distance of only about 1,000 light-years, the cloud is a still part of our Milky Way galaxy.

The colors used in this image represent specific wavelengths of infrared light. Blue and cyan (blue-green) represent light emitted at wavelengths of 3.4 and 4.6 microns, which is predominantly from stars. Green and red represent light from 12 and 22 microns, respectively, which is mostly emitted by dust.

The time has come for us to rejoice as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ on Christmas day Not everybody knows the truth about Jesus Christ but I am glad that you found the way

As we take time to recognize that our Savior was brought into this world to pay the ransom for our sins If you are that lost lamb it would be a wonderful day for your chosen life to begin

Let us rejoice in the Lord as He was brought into this world to die you and for me He paid the price for all who believe in Him at the young age of 33

I can only imagine what He has prepared for me in the Kingdom of God when I get there Something I would have never know if I didn’t take time to care

But I put my foolish lifestyle behind me and I picked up that cross to follow Jesus Christ He has given me the greatest gift of all and He has made the way that I now have eternal life

One day I will die to this world and then stand before God and that is only the beginning of the life that will never end I look forward to the day He will say to me, “Welcome home my faithful friend”

Each day my will is to tell others about Jesus and what He did to save me He paid my debt in full when Jesus gave His life on the cross of Calvary

Now if you are reading this and still undecided what you need to do Just say this prayer with me and you can be saved too

Lord I come to you knowing that you are the only way And I want to walk down the paths of righteousness with You so I am taking up my cross today

The life you have chosen for me I can’t find anywhere else So I deny the life I was living because I know the only help I need only You can give me the help

Rejoice with me because that is the best choice you have ever made All your debts are washed away by the price Jesus Christ paid
